Wellness initiatives at CoWork Me

Workplace stress is real.

According to the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics), one in five Australians (21%) have taken time off work in the past 12 months because they felt stressed, anxious, depressed or mentally unhealthy.

There are so many things at work that can add to stress – deadlines, emails, preparing documents or even meetings. Moreover, staring at a computer screen and sitting at a desk for hours at a time contributes to medical issues like headaches, fatigues and join pain. Because work takes up so much of our mental capacity, it should give us a reason to prioritise mental well-being all the more.

Co-working spaces are the new way to work. A big reason for this is they work differently to commercial offices and put an emphasis on wellness, social interaction and member perks. If we are to ensure mental wellness of employees, these spaces are a great place to start.

At CoWork Me, we keep introducing wellness activities within the space to remind members – it’s important to look after yourself!

Healthy eating habits are often overlooked when you’re on the run and we noticed this a fair bit with our members. This is why we’ve introduced wellness breakfasts every month. These events not only encourage good nutrition, but also helps members get to know each other and network – it’s a win-win situation.

In addition to this, we also ensure there’s fresh fruit available for our community at all times.

We all know, working at a desk all day can lead to issues with posture, disrupt proper breathing, increase headaches and constrict join movements. To help this, we have members who lead exercise classes once or twice a month. This includes meditation classes, cardio, HIIT, boxing class and pilates.

Having a productive, hustle inspired workplace is all well and good. But it’s important to have quiet spaces that are accessible to workers to balance out your environment as well. The onset of co-vid 19 has also changed the way employees work and function, which means workplaces need to support this transition from remote work to the office and provide safe spaces where people can step away, relax and take a break when they need to.

At CoWork Me, we’ve introduced a relaxation room aka the Zen Den which members can book free of charge and recharge.
