Faces of CoWork Me: Jimmy Zissis – Trax Retail

Private Office

Die hard Collingwood supporter Jimmy Zissis has been working out of CoWork Me since the very beginning. As Trax Retail Customer Success Manager, Jimmy looks after global clients such as Coca Cola and finds himself travelling to Singapore, New Zealand and the Middle East during the year.

Can you tell me more about your role and background?

The products we roll out centre around photo recognition. My job at Trax is all about customer success. Basically, once the projects get underway they are handed to me and I make sure that customers are getting value out the product. Essentially, I’m ensuring that things are going smoothly.

How long has the business been going for?

The company itself is quite young, not even 10 years old. Trax started in Singapore and has grown rapidly around the world with offices in Europe, Middle East, North America and South America. What I have found is that everyday is a learning day when you work in the tech space because it is changing all the time.

How many people are in your team?

In our Melbourne office there a four of us in the team with one more coming to join us soon.

How would you describe the work environment?

I think that I’m in a unique work environment, meaning that our head office is based overseas which presents challenges. One of the main struggles is the time difference because we don’t cross over with other offices during our working day.

What’s the biggest difference from working in an office space to coworking?

I like being able to meet people from different industries and find out about the different concepts that they are working on. I have come from offices were about 50-60 people work for the same company so it’s very insular. Here the conversations are always new and fresh because of the types of people and businesses.

CoWork Me has changed a lot since I first joined the space. In the beginning it was quiet and a little bit eerie as it was empty, however, now there is a sense of vibrancy around the space.

How much time is spent in the office and outside the office?

I travel a fair bit for work, mostly because we have global clients and our head office is based out of Singapore. Travelling can be great but it can sometimes present some challenges with my workload.

I find that there is never any downtime at work because once we go offline in Melbourne other offices begin their work day, so by the time I get into work the following day I have been inundated with emails. I spend most of my mornings prioritising projects and sorting through what needs to be done.

What do you do to unwind?

Well, this time of year is good and being in St Kilda is even better with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. I enjoy running without any music or podcasts playing, I just completely disconnect and clear my head. I also love sport and can’t wait for the footy season to start.

Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?

Wow, a job interview question.

I guess, I have never been one to plan out my career. In the last 15 years I have only worked in two jobs prior to Trax, so because of that longevity I would like to think that I will still be here.

The exciting part is that Trax is still growing and I want to go on that journey with them and see where Trax could go.

What’s the best advice someone has given you?

Just control what you can.
